Discovering the world around
them is so important for children's development and mental growth.
My 9-mth-old baby is ever curious and I like to reward that
curiosity. His favourite toy is simply a box that is big enough
that he can't quite see into. I put various everyday objects in
there... from ladles and potato mashers to empty drink bottles,
and he loves sticking his hand in there and bringing out a new
'toy' each time.
My 4-year-old daughter has a different favourite game: we pick fruit and vegies from the garden and together we create different ways to cook with them... sometimes with quite inedible results! But it's all fun. She learns about gardening, measuring and cooking all in the one activity.
A couple of weeks ago she came down with a fever and we wanted to treat her quickly so she could get her back to her normal happy, healthy self.
